Welcome to the Website of the Corps of Drums Society, which was founded in London in 1977, with the primary aim of preserving and promoting drum and fife/flute and bugle music based on the traditions of the British Army. Corps of Drums are still included within the establishment of the English and Welsh infantry battalions (the Scots and Irish have the Pipes and Drums), but their survival depends on the retention of the skills and knowledge needed to train new drummers and flute players, and Buglers in the Light Division. The Society has made a significant contribution to the establishment of a system of formal training, which should enable this very longstanding tradition of Corps of Drums to continue. In addition to its involvement with the Army, the membership of the Society includes civilian and cadet Corps, who base their music on the military traditions, we also have many individual members. The Society maintains a list of active Corps of Drums with the aim of putting prospective players and instructors in touch with their nearest group who can use their skills or provide training. |

Possibly the largest Corps of Drums to be assembled in recent years was for the Last Royal Tournament. The 186 members of this Massed Corps are seen here on the "Countermarch" |

We are also proud that the Society has links with groups from Europe, North America, the West Indies and Australasia,
The main means of contact for members is through our magazine Drummers Call which is published at regular intervals.
We hold four Music Meetings a year at the Firepower Museum in Woolwich Arsenal,
these practices are run by experienced Drum and Bugle Majors. In addition to the practices at Woolwich it is possible to see Corps of Drums, found by the Society, at different venues.
If you would like to spectate please refer to the 2008 Programme of events.Members are encouraged to exchange information or ask advice on any relevant topic which could include obtaining suitable music,
the purchase and maintenance of instruments, to setting up and running a new Corps of Drums. We are always interested in knowing what is happening with Corps of Drums and to include this in our News page.
A simple EMail to the Society address at info@corpsofdrums.com is all that is needed. Also included in this page is a FORUM section,
there you can advertise your items for sale or wanted, express an opinion or pass on information (We reserve the right to edit).
Simply send and Email with the word FORUM in the subject line.We are keen to record the history and development of drum and fife/flute and bugle music. We have a large Photographic Archive,
which continues to grow. We also possess possibly one of the largest collections of sheet music for Corps of Drums.
